Easy Lemon Drop Cocktail: A Lemon Drop-Style Serve With AYO™ Lemonade + Vodka

Make an easy lemon drop cocktail in two minutes with AYO™ Lemonade + Vodka, fresh lemon, and a sugared rim. One-glass recipe, seasonal twists, and a bar tip.

An easy lemon drop cocktail usually means measuring vodka, squeezing lemons, and making simple syrup before you ever pick up a shaker. This lemon drop-style serve skips most of that work. A cold can of AYO™ Lemonade + Vodka already brings the lemonade and the vodka, so all you add is fresh lemon, a sugared rim, and a quick shake over ice. AYO™ Lemonade + Vodka comes in a 12 fl oz can at 5% ABV, made with vodka and natural flavors, and is produced and packaged by Hidden Still in Hershey, PA.

What Makes a Lemon Drop a Lemon Drop

A classic lemon drop is a sweet-tart vodka drink served up, meaning chilled and strained into a stemmed glass with no ice. Three things define it: bright lemon, a little sweetness to balance the sour, and a sugared rim that gives every sip a candy-like edge.

Our version keeps the look and the sweet-tart balance. Because it starts from a 5% ABV canned cocktail rather than straight vodka, it is a lighter, longer drink than a bar-standard lemon drop, which makes it an easy choice for a relaxed evening or a dinner party.

Easy Lemon Drop Cocktail Recipe (One Glass)

What you need:

  • About half a can of AYO™ Lemonade + Vodka (roughly 6 fl oz), well chilled
  • Half a fresh lemon
  • Superfine or regular granulated sugar for the rim
  • Ice
  • A cocktail shaker, or a jar with a tight lid
  • A coupe, martini glass, or small wine glass

How to build it:

  • Chill your glass in the freezer for 10 minutes, or fill it with ice water while you prep
  • Spread a thin layer of sugar on a small plate
  • Rub a lemon wedge around the outer rim of the glass, then roll the rim through the sugar
  • Fill the shaker about two-thirds with ice
  • Add the AYO™ Lemonade + Vodka and a squeeze of fresh lemon, about a quarter of the lemon
  • Shake gently for 5 to 8 seconds; the can is lightly carbonated, so a short shake chills it without building too much pressure
  • Strain into the sugared glass and finish with a thin lemon twist

Taste and adjust. If it reads too sweet, add another small squeeze of lemon. If it is too tart, the sugared rim usually fixes it on its own.

Tips for a Better Lemon Drop-Style Serve

Small details make this drink look like it came from a cocktail bar.

  • Rim only the outside of the glass so sugar doesn't fall into the drink and make it sweeter as you sip
  • Use fresh lemon, not bottled juice; the bright oils from a fresh fruit are what make it taste like a lemon drop
  • Cut the twist with a vegetable peeler, keeping as little white pith as possible, and give it a pinch over the glass to release the oils

Seasonal Twists on the Easy Lemon Drop Cocktail

The same base changes easily with the calendar.

  • Fall: mix a pinch of cinnamon into the rim sugar and garnish with a thin apple slice
  • Holiday parties: drop three fresh cranberries into the glass and add a small rosemary sprig for color
  • Spring and summer: muddle two fresh basil leaves in the shaker before adding ice

Each twist uses the same half-can pour, so the strength stays the same from glass to glass.

Serving Lemon Drops at a Bar or Restaurant

For bars, restaurants, and event venues, a lemon drop-style serve is a simple way to turn a canned cocktail into a menu item that looks handcrafted. Pre-rim a tray of glasses before the rush, keep lemons cut and covered, and the build becomes one pour, one squeeze, one short shake. Because every 12 fl oz can is the same 5% ABV, each drink comes out consistent no matter who is on the rail.

The Short Version

An easy lemon drop cocktail with AYO™ takes half a can of AYO™ Lemonade + Vodka, a squeeze of fresh lemon, a sugared rim, and a quick shake over ice. It looks polished, takes about two minutes, and works at home or behind a busy bar. Bourbon + Lemonade is coming soon from AYO™, but for a lemon drop, the lemonade vodka can is the one to reach for.

Please serve responsibly to guests 21 and over.
